What would really be helpful as soon as the information is nailed down is some type of spreadsheet/list showing: (1) where we will be staying in each location and the anticipated date; (2) whether there is hot water available for the dogs; (3) where the dogs will be in relation to where we will be staying; (4) who will be picking up our drop bags from the airport and be storing them; (5) where the vaccine clinic will be located and the time for that; and (6) where the ATTLA movie will be shown. Item #2 will influence the amount of HEET we need to carry.
As for the vaccine clinic, I believe if the villages know we are doing this as a public service, I think there will be a lot of interest and our arrival will be welcomed. I know that the villages have FACEBOOK pages and this would be a good place to advertise the clinic. Gil is going to need to know soon the amount of interest and it may be possible for him to assess that if the clinic location is identified and placed on the village facebook page.
Regarding the ATTLA movie, we are going to need to know if we can show it at the school or if other arrangements need to be made.
Last but not least, I think it is highly advisable (if this has not already been done) to let the villages know our approximate arrival date if everything goes well. Every single Serum Run has had delays due to machine breakdowns or weather, so we may not be in Unalakleet on the day we anticipate if there’s bad weather or we are waiting for a snow machine part. Other Serum Runs have built in a day or two extra for this; we have not but the likelihood is that there will be delays and if a clinic is going to be delayed, that should be posted on the village facebook page.
Thank you Kathleen. All of the things you mentioned are being worked on and will be finalized as soon as the schools go back in session. I like the idea of a spreadsheet. Thank you.
