I’ve got Pam Redington’s phone number (672-3412) and spoke at length with her today. I’m neighbors with her nephew and her brother-in-law and I breed dogs together. She had TONS of worthwhile information. So, here goes:
(1). The school is closed in Manley so it is not an option.
(2) Lisa at the Roadhouse (672-3222) might possibly open just the rooms for a fee.
(3) the other option is the Tribal Hall, which is at the edge of town on the Elliott Highway. They are currently housing construction workers who are building a clinic but she things they will be done by February. Liz Woods is the Tribal administrator (672-3511). There’s a laundry at the tribal hall, a store, and we could show ATTLA there. But, there are only 50 residents in winter so it would not be a huge group.
(4) the community store is open M, W, F from 10 to 4:30; the post office is also open 9 to 4:30.
(5) If we work with Liz, the tribal hall would have a secure place to store drop bags and our six bales of straw.(6) THIS IS IMPORTANT: there has been a lot of overflow so far this year on the river. Pam recommends that we contact Aaron Burmeister in Nenana and Sabie in Manley (672-3321) to get a trail report. Three machines got stuck in waist deep overflow this week. It may not be an issue, but she said to be sure to check this out. Normally, you can gun it through overflow, but towing a big sled is a problem.
(7) The road to Tanana is open year-round. Pam says mushers use it too. She recommends that we advertise on the Manley and Tanana Facebook pages that we will be using the road on a certain day and then people will watch out for us.
(8) The road to Tanana is generally open in winter, although closes occasionally if the weather is bad.
(9) People will definitely be interested in rabies shots; we can advertise that service and the ATTLA movie on the Manley Facebook page.
