• Does anyone know the procedure for having our bags weighed and paid for to each of the three drop sites? Wrights would probably weigh them together, if we haven’t specified our intention to pay individually. Do we have to each pay for pallets as well as our hay and drop sacks? How and when do we pay? Do we call Wrights?

Hi Gil, what would you like us to have for the expedition in the way of meds for our dog teams? What are you able to provide if needed? I do not have any dogs on medication. However, I have a female who got frostbite on her nipples two weeks ago. She is a key leader and I hope to take her. Thanks for posting a list of what you’d like to see…[Read more]

Is everyone, mushers especially, following the pack food and supplies for 29 days? I realize we have proposed 17 days of travel and there are potential layovers due to weather and there is time in Nome when some of the “extras” could be consumed. 12 extra days seems like a lot. Maybe I’m not reading it right?

    Hi,

I have been having issues with log in at home on my iPhone5, but here at work all is well. So i have to catch up on some things.

Stephanie – I sent my legal name and address twice to you, I hope you got it and I also sent that what specifics on the fish Kathleen asked for would also be perfect for my team. I’m going to piggyback on her…[Read more]

    $352.20 for Valley Mushers? Straw?

  • Hi Michele,
Andrew K Demoski School, Nulato, 907-898-2204
    Kaltag School, 907-534-2204
    Hope this helps!

  • I spoke with a lady from Galena Sidney S. Huntington School and she said the best option for Galena is to contact the City of Galena about the Community Hall and have the dog teams at Alexander Slough.

  • I also have the school phone numbers for the schools in Nulato and Kaltag in the Yukon-Koyukuk School District. I’m just gathering info at this point, not trying to overstep.

  • Lodging – I just spoke with Kathy Mackey who is a school district employee and part of a long time mushing family along with her husband Rick Mackey. I let her know that the Serum Run is actively seeking contact people in the villages from Nenana to Galena and If she has any good contacts with schools or mushers, to please let me know. She has my…[Read more]

  • I think compensating the guardian of the drop sacks is important. I’m concerned at all the “small costs” adding up to an enormous amount if we don’t keep a running account of what we are agreeing on. Its important that we don’t lose team members due to rising costs and I believe that could happen if we just go around spending willy-nilly. I’m…[Read more]

  • Let’s be careful with costs.

  • Carla and I are having a “shakedown” on December 7th-8th on the Denali Highway during the Alpine Creek Excursions Race. Kathleen will be there with her handlers and it should give us a good learning experience. Kathleen and I got our 1,000 booties and 500# of fish, thank you Phil. Training is well underway and snow is falling along with the…[Read more]

  • I am signed up for the Alpine Creek Excursions Race on December 9th. It is 65 miles and overnights at the lodge on Denali Highway. My dogs haven’t been on snow yet this year, but we can go 20 miles with the 4 wheeler and still have some steam left. Feet are definitely a concern with dirt roads, so most of us are holding back. This event would be a…[Read more]

  • Stephanie, how do you want us to give you our sled measurements and weight and dog count? I haven’t seen a post anywhere, but I just saw the deadline was Sunday. I will plan on 11 dogs, (10-12) not sure yet, and sled 5.5 bed, 8.5 runners 40 pounds approx.

  • Hi Phil, It is an older wooden sled with double runners. I have arranged to borrow a sled from an Iditarod musher, Lev Shvarts. He said I could start using it anytime after January. If it falls through, I hope to borrow Stephanie’s training sled if no local sleds become available.
I’m counting on using the wooden box to ship at this point,…[Read more]

Hi Stephanie. Thank you, I think I have one. One is promised to me as a loaner starting after January. If that one falls through, I will be very happy to have a back up !!!

  • Has anyone heard if Hugh and Olivia still plan on taking part in the expedition?

  • Thank you Kirsten!

  • I took my big sled to the sled repair and got some disappointing news. It has double runners and one of them is broken. It will cost $500 plus any other work to put it on the trail. If anyone has a lead on a sled I could borrow or ? Rent? Please let me know. The sled bag for my GATT alone is $450 new and it’s not nearly big enough for this trip.…[Read more]

    • Juliah, did you find a sled? I have a raised toboggan that may be good for the expedition but I would need it for training until close to time we leave. If you could find one closer, I am sure that would better since it would not have to be shipped but keep it in mind. Phil is my neighbor and would probably be willing to check it out for any…[Read more]
