I believe that the by-pass rate is about .49/pound – wherever you’re going to/coming from. Fairbanks can send by-pass to certain locations, Anchorage can send by-pass to certain locations. For instances, Fairbanks cannot send by-pass to Nome. It is Anchorage that sends by-pass to Nome. There has to be at least 1000 pounds to get the by-pass rate. The post office contracts with all of the air carriers to ship their by-pass mail. It’s my understanding that when a place like Underdog Feeds sends us our meat order by by-pass mail, they somehow learn (from the post office maybe) which air carrier to take it to.
