Good Afternoon!
Just a little update on stormy and a question about some of his bad behavior…When he is goodie is good…when he is bad…oh dear god.
He is doing very good with “lets go” going in different circles and following my lead. Can still get very easily distracted by stick/other dog barking/or a car down the street, but doing well over all.
Sit and stay is food is improving almost 2 minutesWhen it comes to sitting on command…still a struggle. Still needs hands on almost every time unless we are at the front door. he seems to get it then.
Coming when called…he will do the exercise “recall” i sit/stay him walk away and say come just fine. But this has not translated into his normal habit when Im in the house and call “stormy come” or if we are outside and call “come”
Now for my real question. Stormy has a bit of an aggressive side when it comes to things he wants. he can get very snarly/mean and then will kind of leap after you, nip and bite if he feels you are getting too close to the object of his desire. For example; there is a huge pile of old shrubs by the house that he likes to poop near by he has taken to yanking and chewing on the sticks…when i say come/leave it/lets go he will snarl/ bark and lunge toward me bitting normally my boot several times, maybe nipping my thigh. Similar incident happened with my mother today due to him getting a Kleenex out of her purse and he did not respond to “leave it”
He had this type of issue in the past and is why he is no longer allowed to have raw hides.
What is the best reaction for me to give him in response to this behavior? I do the Very Stern “NO”, tried to redirect his attention with a sit, also just taken him straight up stairs to the crate for a 10 minute time out.
How is best to approach this behavior??
