Frank and Leslie
Good evening! It looks like based on your scores that Toby has a high prey drive and an equally high pack drive. Toby is a cross between the Gas Station Dog and the Teacher’s Pet.
The Gas Station Dog–high Prey, low Pack, high Defense (Fight). This dog is independent and not easy to live with as a pet and companion. Highly excitable by movement and may attack anything that comes within range. Does not care much about people or other dogs and will do well as a guard dog. Pack exercises such as healing need to be built up through Prey. A real challenge.
Teacher’s Pet–medium (50-75) Prey, Pack and Defense (Fight). Easy to train and motivate. Mistakes on your part are not critical.
Although Toby doesn’t attack anything that comes within range and would rather run and hide (flight) from it he still likes to make whatever it is think he will attack.
Small dog BIG attitude.
I would like you guys to start with healing exercises like I mentioned in our first meeting. Tether him to you for short periods of time throughout the day. Because he will take to training as a job (teacher’s pet) use treats as a way to keep him interested (prey) and as a way to keep him in more of a pack mindset. Don’t overpraise or give too many treats. The trick here is to get his attention and then get him to think you are much more entertaining that whatever is going on outside that big picture window!
Start on ADW HW 1 and Paces the first two paw prints, Leadership stays and just try to begin developing a new routine.
