The trail class Iron Dog teams depart Fairbanks on the 13th and the Pro Class on the 16th. But the Iron Dog trail won’t be of much use to use to us between Nenana and Tanana because they travel the Tanana River rather than the over land trail. Seventy five river miles vs. 55 overland between Manley and Tanana which is not a big deal to a snow machine doing 60+ mph but makes for a much longer day for a dog team. The old mail trail between Old Minto and Beaver Point cuts off a lot of bends of the river but is narrow and brushy and not used by the iron dog. Not sure if the section between Beaver Point and Manley gets used at all. Usually drop back to the river down stream of Bouldings place, but is a fairly straight shot from there to Manley.
