I never could afford an alcohol fuel cooker or the fuel when I was traveling with dogs so I don’t know if you could melt snow in them over a campfire. I always carried a metal 5 gallon bucket (Alaska mill and feed used to sell tallow in them) and a 20″ bow saw. It’s easy to find dry willows along the Yukon and Tanana rivers. You can certainly save on the amount needed if you can melt snow over a campfire between Tanana and Ruby.
