SNOW REPORT!!
I just got off of a wonderful phone call with Pat Moore in Tanana. He and I will be emailing due to connection and he said he can’t hear anymore! Accommodations in Tanana should be sealed here in a few days.
Pat had great information (thank you Kathleen for connecting us)
Pat said they’ve gotten two storms in the past 10 days or so that have dumped more snow than they see in a year! Snowmachines couldn’t leave yards he said. Pat also said there is a road now that goes from Manley to Tanana. It can be marked where you guys would need to turn to get off road. This is great news for possibility of straw and drop bag deliveries.
Manley update: After calling daily since the 2nd and sending multiple emails including through their website – someone answered the phone at 5:10pm tonight. That person was told (I overheard) to tell me to call back during business hours! 10-5. I’ll be calling tomorrow.
Nulato – contact was made last night and again today. Received updated info from Sharon Agnes who was the old contact person. There have been lots of changes and the community has events like this going through the Tribe or the School. I have info for both and called today and left voice messages – which seems to be all I’m accomplishing.
OLD MINTO – secured! NO FEE. I offered the very sweet Chief Joseph Alexander a donation and he declined to reply to my email regarding that. I think we should. There is a small cabin that can accommodate 3 or 4 of you. You will stay near the Cultural Center. Dogs will be parked near there. Water has to be melted. This is not a Drop bag or straw location. I also shared that the movie is available if they wanted to arrange a community viewing. Chief Joseph shared coordinates and aerial photos.
I am putting together and excel spreadsheet that will be uploaded here once I have secured the majority of the villages.
I have contacted 12 of the checkpoints for accommodations. It’s just a matter of getting a hold of someone.
Thank you for your patience.
